Children who qualify for special education services under I.D.E.A. Act are
appropriate for this program. Children attending MHA need special services
for his or her unique emotional handicap and/or learning disability. Each
child's disability is not allowing him or her to learn up to their academic
potential. All children must be referred with an active I.E.P. placing the child
in the program. Services are provided for children in grades K through
eight. This program does not have special accommodations, thus children
who are in need of special accommodations will be referred to the appropriate
district program.
During the summer, a therapeutic day program for children with behavioral disorders is
offered. This program does not have public school instruction. This curriculum strictly emphasizes
behavior, specifically socialization, anger management, conflict resolution, goal setting,
family dynamics and other relevant topics. Curriculum also includes reading,
arts/crafts and physical activities. It operates Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM
3:00 PM.
Academy Programs
Academy Programs provide an
alternative placement for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.
Each child has a treatment plan developed by his/her Child and Family team that
outlines the goals that services will promote. Students receive three hours of
group therapy daily, one hour of individual therapy weekly, one hour of family
therapy monthly, case management and crisis intervention services as needed.
During the additional three hours of the school day, students receive
specialized academic instruction provided by school district teachers.
Students who qualify for the Therapeutic Day Treatment Programs must be Title 19
or 21 eligible, have an emotional issue that impedes his/her ability to learn
and be unmanageable in group settings. These programs will refer students
requiring special accommodations due to physical disabilities to the appropriate
district program.

has determine the family needs more intensive services. The Wraparound
team consists of two members, a Masters level clinician and a Behavioral Health
Technician/Paraprofessional. Teams incorporate a Multi-Systemic therapeutic
(MST) approach, addressing multiple determinants of serious at-risk behaviors by
assisting families in recognizing target behaviors to change and providing the
tools to do so. Teams involve all of the systems that encompass the individual
as members of the Child and Family Team. Teams use the strengths within each of
these systems to promote behavior change in the home environment. Teams meet
with the family around the families schedule to provide these therapeutic
services, case management and crisis prevention.
The appropriate
referral is a Title 19/21 eligible child whose behaviors make him/her at risk of
out of home placement. Intensive in-home services are voluntary, and families must be
willing to participate in services.
